Sanctuary Personnel, an innovative and committed recruitment agency has a job based in Mitcham for a Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse to work within the Older People’s Intensive Home Treatment Team.

The pay rate for this Registered Mental Health Nurse job is £28.53 per hour (Assignment rate) and is an initial 1-month contract.

Duties:

  • Be responsible for assessment of care need and the development implementation and evaluation of programmes of care
  • Carry out all relevant forms of care, as defined and set out by the Care Co-ordinator within the OPCMHT
  • Supervise junior staff and will be expected to take responsibility as the key nurse for a defined group of patients and may act as an associate nurse in the absence of a colleague
  • Works with minimum supervision in the assessment of all relevant care needs and in the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care
  • Participate fully in audit and quality assurance initiatives, with particular emphasis on a ‘customer first’ approach
  • Act as a role model
  • Take responsibility for the management of the team to the agreed local and professional standards
  • Take responsibility for the co-ordination of all the activities within the team
  • Help create and maintain positive working relationships within the multi-disciplinary team and ensure that treatment packages and plans are implemented
  • Ensure the promotion of safety and well being of patients, families
  • Instigate and demonstrate clinical excellence
  • Instigate, supervise and monitor nursing practice
  • Take responsibility for a caseload of patients
  • Assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document care in liaison with the patients’ care co-ordinator within the OPCMHT
  • Work with colleagues to promote the development of the clinical area’s philosophy, framework of care delivery and agreed objectives
  • Administer prescribed medication, noting effects and side-effects, monitoring compliance, and ensuring that required observations are performed in a timely and effective way
  • Maintain safe custody of medicines, sharps and other clinical equipment
  • Manage own time and workload, prioritising work appropriately
  • Maintain clear, concise, up to date care records and to use information systems effectively and as required
  • Liaise with the OPCMHT and OP Inpatient wards and facilitate an effective working relationship
  • Participate in planning treatment after discharge
  • Work with colleagues to develop clinical expertise and high standards of nursing practice, as defined by the NMC ‘Scope for Professional Conduct
  • Deliver care that is reflective of current best practices and research
  • Participate in clinical supervision in accordance with the Trust policies and procedures
  • Assist the Nursing Team Leader in the organisation of work and ensure it is carried out
  • Work with the MDT and other agencies in the admission, treatment and discharge of patients
  • Undertake home visits and clinical duties within the IHTT
  • Maintain educate and promote high standards of professional practice and competence in keeping with the NMC Code of Conduct and the Scope of Professional Practice
  • Participate in and initiate developments and innovations within the service
  • Maintain and improve professional, clinical knowledge and skills by promoting self growth and development through participating in the in-service training programme and other educational programmes/materials as agreed by the line manager/Lead Nurse
  • Participate in the Mental Health Quality Assurance programme, encouraging ideas/suggestions and using these to ensure standards are developed, implemented and evaluated through a team approach
  • Maintain a record of professional development by use of a personal profile to meet the requirements of PREPP to ensure continued registration
  • Identifying needs/gaols through supervision, appraisal and development reviews
  • Ensure confidentiality at all times, only releasing confidential information obtained during the course of employment to those acting in an official capacity
  • Participate in nursing research and disseminate the knowledge and results from such research to colleagues

Requirements of the Registered Mental Health Nurse:

  • Degree or equivalent within Mental Health Nursing (RMN trained)
  • NMC registration and a valid live pin
  • Be fully conversant with the 1983 Mental Health Act and its implications, work within the Trust policies and procedures and have a working knowledge of issues regarding the 1990 Community Care Act
  • Be conversant in and contribute to local initiatives on Clinical Governance, i.e. Risk Management, Clinical Effectiveness and Quality Assurance programmes
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering care programmes in a Mental Health setting
  • Experience of working with older people with mental health problems
  • Experience of junior staff supervision and development
  • ENB 998 or equivalent
  • Mentorship training
  • Proof of qualifications and professional registration if relevant
  • References
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective assessment and care planning skills
  • Sound knowledge of clinical issues relating to the Mental Health Act, Quality issues, the Patients Charter, PREPP, Scope of Practice, Manual Handling Regulations, Mentorship, Perceptorship, CPA, Supervised Discharge, and the Community Care Act
  • Ability to organise and prioritise effectively
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act (2007)
  • Knowledge of current NHS/Mental Health management developments
  • Ability to work well within the multi-disciplinary team
