Sanctuary Personnel, a committed and competitive recruitment agency is currently looking for an experienced and dedicated Band 6 Pharmacy Technician to fill a full-time role (37.5 hours per week) based in Harrow.

The pay rate for this locum Pharmacy Technician job is£25.10 per hour (Assignment rate) and is a 12-monthcontract.

The postholder will be required to work at different locations to your normal place of work.

Work pattern is unpredictable with high and unpredictable (emergency) demand for reconstituted chemotherapy products.

Duties:

  • Provides specialist Aseptic support to Senior Pharmacist Aseptic Services and the Chief Technician of Aseptic Services
  • Manage and supervise the provision of pharmacy aseptic services especially in the provision of chemotherapy and total parenteral nutrition (TPN) reconstitution to all areas of the Hospital as well as for external customers
  • Monitor resources, activities and adherence to quality assurance in chemotherapy and TPN reconstitution
  • Assist the senior manager in developing Aseptic services in line with Trust and Pharmacy department development policies
  • Provide information regarding chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition to pharmacy staff, external sales customers and ward staff. Assisting senior pharmacist and chief technician in Aseptic services in monitoring all staff to ensure adherence to standard operating procedures as required in the Aseptic production of chemotherapy and TPN
  • Assist in resolving day to day problems or issues affecting resources or the service provision which require co-operation to achieve standards set out by Medicinal and HealthCare Regulatory Authority (MHRA)
  • Provide information when dealing with complaint from service users in chemotherapy and TPN reconstitution services
  • Ensuring sensitive information regarding drugs and chemotherapy regimen are confidential during processing of chemotherapy regimen for patients
  • Assist the chief technician in liaising with manufacturer or supplier to ensure adequate supply of cytotoxic and TPN stocks and consumables for the running of the TPN and chemotherapy unit
  • Attend or chair departmental meetings, communicating to all staff issues of Good Manufacturing Practice compliance and other issues within the department
  • Liaise with student technicians communicating issues and resolving problems
  • Participate in the recruitment of student technicians and junior technicians if required
  • Identify training needs and carry out staff training for junior member of staff with the agreement of Chief Technician and Senior pharmacist
  • Ensure that staff working in the unit are adequately trained and competent, updated as necessary and records kept
  • Deputising in the absence of the chief and senior technician
  • Ensure compliance with GMP/medicine legislation in the provision of pharmaceutical care for patients
  • Provide Aseptic information for manufacture of aseptic products including chemotherapy treatment
  • Provide information on the availability of chemotherapy stock for patients
  • Ensure stock control is in place e.g. stock checks are completed appropriately and discrepancy is accounted for
  • Produce and write Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), worksheets and other related documentation for Aseptic services

Requirements of the Pharmacy Technician:

  • GPHC Registration
  • Post graduate pharmacy experience
  • Skills in reconstitution of cytotoxic drugs and parenteral nutrition in a MHRA Class A aseptic condition to ensure safety and quality of intravenous products
  • BTEC in pharmaceutical science plus induction and CPD. Post-qualification experience in specialized aseptic area is essential
  • Knowledge and understanding of Aseptic resources such as the chemotherapy isolator and TPN laminar flow cabinet is essential in maintaining and ensuring the safety and quality of staff training and chemotherapy and TPN products
  • Background pharmaceutical knowledge of TPN and chemotherapy
  • Standard keyboard skills required for entering dispensing data into the computer
  • Need to have or working toward having advanced skills in TPN prescribing system and Chemotherapy Labelling System
  • JAC training for daily management of chemotherapy and TPN sales
  • Additional training in NVQ2 assessment for Pharmacy assistants Skills in using Microsoft packages such as Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of dispensary particularly the use of Pharmacy software such as JAC
