Sanctuary Personnel, a committed and competitive recruitment agency is currently looking for an experienced and dedicated Occupational Therapist to work in Saffron Waldenon a part time or full-time basis, within the Housing & Manual Handling Team.

The salary for this permanent Occupational Therapist job is £45,000 - £50,000 (depending on experience) per annum.

The role will require travelling to meet clients and overnight stops may be required occasionally, as dictated by client and team requirements. We can accommodate some flexibility with hours.

Duties:

  • Supporting the team to search for suitable properties to rent and purchase, recommend major and minor adaptations and specialist equipment for people’s homes to improve independence and safety
  • Undertaking occupational therapist assessments of the housing needs of adults and children with cognitive, sensory, emotional and physical impairments
  • Come up with suitable creative solutions to enable access and independence within the client's home environment
  • Working with adults and children to provide solutions to their housing needs
  • Identifying your client's housing needs and assessing suitability of their current home or any future home
  • Recommend any alterations required to the home to increase access and independence, identify risks in the home and to identify solutions to mitigate these risks
  • Writing case notes, reports and specifications and presenting your cases in a variety of ways and in a number of different forums including in conference calls with litigation teams, case managers and MTD meetings
  • Travel throughout the UK to visit clients
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct standards of the College of Occupational Therapists and comply with the company policies and procedures

Requirements of the Occupational Therapist:

  • Bachelor of Science honours degree in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registered as an Occupational Therapist
  • Registered with the Royal College of Occupational Therapy
  • Recent NHS experience either pre or post qualification
  • In depth knowledge of specialist equipment, adaptations and manual handling
  • The ability to have a significant impact and improve people’s lives by finding and adapting their home environment to overcome any barriers for independence and maximise their wellbeing and quality of life
  • Occupational therapist experience specialising in housing and manual handling
  • Be passionate about improving people’s lives and also wanting to develop yourself and your career
  • Experience of working in a local authority or private practice, but interested in joining a commercial company
  • Be competent at documenting your work and clinical reasoning
  • Hold a clean licence and be happy to travel and stay away from home if needed
  • Experience working with surveyors, architects, building trades and planning departments
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Good assessment and problem-solving skills
  • Good clinical reasoning

  • Ability to prioritise own workload and to work with supervision
  • IT skills - have basic knowledge of using all programmes within Microsoft Office package

  • Up to date first aid, manual handling and safeguarding training
  • Knowledge of: Government legislation and guidance affecting this service area/Benefits and grants available for people with disabilities
  • Knowledge and experience of the effects of disability on the individual
  • Understanding of building materials, building design and structure, construction process and the role of key people within it
  • Ability to respond to the clients and anticipate their needs
  • Analytical Thinking – ability to apply logic to solve problems and get the job done
  • Creative Thinking and Flexibility - ability to look outside the box and develop new strategies
  • Initiative and Decision Making - can make decisions and take responsibility for them
