Sanctuary Personnel, a committed and competitive recruitment agency is currently looking for an experienced and dedicated Band 7 Learning Disability Trauma (Advanced) Occupational Therapist to work in Bradfordon a full-time basis, within the Learning Disability Trauma Informed Care Team (CAMHS).

The pay rate for this locum Learning Disability Trauma Occupational Therapist job is £29 per hour (Assignment rate) and is an initial 3-month contract.

Duties:

  • Provide highly specialist occupational therapy assessment, formulation, and interventions to young people with high levels of complexity and vulnerabilities
  • Provide specialist advice, supervision, case discussion & formulation to staff supporting young people who have a learning disability and have been exposed to complex trauma
  • Support robust risk assessment and management offering specialist plans and intervention which support a young person’s occupational and sensory needs
  • Develop and sustain partnership working with community agencies and facilities to promote inclusion, awareness of occupational performance issues and onward support
  • Making autonomous clinical decisions about own professional practice
  • Ensure the clinical effectiveness of own practice and of service functioning by contributing to research and development activities relevant to the service area
  • Support development of staff through supervision and consultation and support development of occupational therapy students
  • Ensure Bradford and Airedale Child Protection Guidelines and procedures are fully understood by self and others with whom the professional may meet
  • Ensure the safety needs of the young person are met at all times and take appropriate action when the young person is felt to be at risk
  • Provide highly specialist occupational therapy assessment of clients with highly complex conditions based on the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of data from a variety of sources
  • Formulate plans for highly specialist intervention relating to any identified occupational difficulties supporting the overall wellbeing and risk
  • Apply knowledge of sensory integration and attachment and how these relate to developmental trauma
  • Provide specialist advice, supervision, case discussion & formulation to staff and carers supporting young people with a learning disability who have been exposed to complex trauma
  • Support robust risk assessment and management offering specialist occupational therapy plans
  • Make autonomous clinical decisions about own professional practice
  • Ensure the clinical effectiveness of own practice and of service functioning by contributing to research and development activities relevant to the service area
  • Work with autonomous professional judgement, together with other multidisciplinary professionals, to offer assessments, formulations and treatment recommendations that consider the individual and their context
  • Actively promote user/carer involvement in all aspects of care planning and delivery whilst respecting the rights cultural needs capabilities and wishes of the individuals concerned
  • Contribute to the formulation and review of CAMHS policies and protocols as directed
  • Contribute to the formulation of CAMHS standards and audit of practice as directed
  • Act as a mentor to students and newly qualified staff
  • Use IT systems effectively
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records in accordance with Trust policy
  • Delegate tasks to staff within their competency and ensure that the delegation/escalation process forms part of the culture of the service
  • Contribute to the development of the learning disability trauma informed care team, individuals, and self to enhance performance
  • Listen and be open to the views of others
  • Suggest and critically explore new concepts without prejudice or assumption
  • Effectively communicate with other disciplines/agencies/patients and carers
  • Maintain professional relationships with all colleagues to ensure professional standards are met
  • Actively participate in the appraisal process

Requirements of the Learning Disability Trauma Occupational Therapist:

  • Degree or equivalent within Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registered as an Occupational Therapist
  • Recent NHS experience either pre or post qualification
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the need for flexible responses to mental health crises
  • Display flexibility in line with changes in service delivery, including flexible working hours, as negotiated
  • Be aware of their roles & responsibilities to both prevent and respond appropriately to abuse
  • Understand people’s views and respond to their individual needs
  • Aware of your individual responsibilities regarding infection prevention and control
  • Be familiar with and comply with current infection prevention and control, guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Be familiar with emergency procedures, risk management systems and incident management in their workplace
