Sanctuary Personnel, a committed and competitive recruitment agency is currently looking for an experienced and dedicated Immunisation Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to work based in Cambridge.

The pay rate for this locum Immunisation Healthcare Assistant job is £19.13 per hour (Assignment rate) and is a 3-month contract.

This role may require you to work across different locations.

Duties:

  • Promote and support the health of school aged children via the delivery of the School Aged Immunisation Service
  • Facilitating the influenza programme as part of the School Aged Immunisation Service
  • Undertake some aspects of the immunisation session such as administration of the nasal flu vaccine under the direction of registered nurses and registered health professionals
  • Communicate with schools in order to achieve delivery of an effective and efficient nasal flu immunisation programme for school age children to meet the contract KPIs
  • Work to promote and facilitate collaborative working between the school aged immunisation team, schools and other educational institutions and families in the delivery of the school aged immunisation programme
  • Accept delegated duties from the Immunisation Coordinator and / or Senior Immunisation Nurse
  • Communicate effectively with all school immunisation team members, school staff, and pupils and their families in order to work effectively and efficiently
  • Ensuring that all relevant organisational and national guidance and policy documents relating to quality of immunisation services are translated into practice through the application of VUK standards, policy & care pathways and audit
  • Clinical governance activities are undertaken in accordance with VUK policies and procedures for best practice
  • Report to Immunisation Coordinator any appropriate management issues which arise regarding contract compliance, service delivery and client safety
  • Promote and deliver the childhood nasal influenza programme
  • Contribute to the identification and protection of children at risk of abuse and act in accordance with local Safeguarding Children’s Board guidelines
  • Contribute to the identification and immunisation of home-schooled children and those in Pupil Referral Units
  • Assist in the planning, delivery and evaluation of health promotion / education and public health activities related to the Childhood Nasal Influenza Immunisation campaign, in conjunction with the Immunisation Coordinator and Senior Immunisation Nurse
  • Observe infection control procedures
  • Identify risks / clinical incidents following policy and informing line manager
  • Administration of the nasal influenza vaccine will occur under the direction of registered health professionals
  • Ensure that all statutory & mandatory training is kept up to date
  • Attend all mandatory training that is provided by VUK
  • Participate in the annual appraisal process as directed, maintaining professional competencies
  • Support the Immunisation Coordinator with his/her duties as requested
  • Communicate effectively with children, young people and their families, without judgement\
  • Maintain secure records and provide information on a need to know basis for data protection purposes
  • Maintain regular contact with the Immunisation Coordinators, and clinical team members
  • Maintain legible, contemporaneous records, safeguarding confidentiality at all time
  • Attend and participate in Clinical Supervision as directed by the Senior Immunisation Nurse

Requirements of the Immunisation Healthcare Assistant:

  • A UK driving license and access to a car that can be used for business purposes
  • Being able to understand the pre-requisites of giving an immunisation, understanding the contra-indications, the aftercare and the relevant advice to give to the young person, parents and carers and colleagues
  • Read and understand the relevant Patient Group Direction, the relevant chapter in the Immunisation Green Book and understand storage and transport instructions for immunisations
  • Experience of working in a community setting and/or working with children & young people
  • Able to demonstrate team working
  • Good level of general education including English and Maths at GCSE / O Level
  • NVQ 3 in Child Healthcare or equivalent
  • Current immunisation training / update or willingness to undertake
  • Evidence of continuous personal and professional development and willingness to commit to ongoing CPD
  • Knowledge of immunisation schedules in accordance with national recommendations
  • Understanding the principles of consent for children and young people
  • Understand the principles of assessment of children and young people
  • Ability to prioritise work
  • Computer literate
  • Able to demonstrate effective communication skills using a variety of communication systems with children and adults
  • Knowledge of child protection procedures
  • Practical skills and knowledge of cold chain procedures and medicines management
  • Flexible approach to working – must be able to work in different locations or occasional unsocial hours as required
  • Preferably hold a UK driving license and have access to a car that can be used for business purposes
  • Ability to work in a variety of settings
  • Works well within a team environment
