About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Housing Solutions Officer to join our team in Basildon. In this role, you will assess customers’ housing needs in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, developing and managing personalised housing plans to secure long-term, sustainable solutions.
You will take a holistic approach, working with customers to address both their immediate housing challenges and long-term aspirations. Managing a caseload, you will collaborate with statutory and voluntary organisations to help clients achieve stability and improve their future opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive housing needs assessments in accordance with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
- Provide expert advice on housing, welfare benefits, financial well-being, and employment, signposting customers to specialist agencies where necessary.
- Develop and maintain personalised housing plans, ensuring regular reviews and adjustments.
- Work closely with the Private Rented Sector Team to secure good-quality, affordable private rented accommodation via the Council’s private sector access schemes.
- Negotiate with landlords, hosts, and lenders to prevent or relieve homelessness until a permanent solution is found.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with local and national statutory and third-sector organisations to maximise support for customers.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies such as Social Services, Probation, Police, and housing providers to deliver coordinated support.
- Support the Temporary Accommodation and Private Rented Sector Teams to facilitate interim and long-term housing solutions efficiently.
Applicant Requirements
- Experience with Jigsaw software is essential.
- Proven background in a frontline, customer-focused environment.
- Strong knowledge of housing legislation, including:
- Housing Act 1996 (as amended)
- Localism Act 2011
- Welfare Reform Act 2012
- Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 (including related Codes of Guidance and case law)
