Sanctuary Personnel, an innovative and committed recruitment agency has a job based in Reading for a Social Work Consultant Practitioner to work 37 hours per week, within the Family Intervention Team.

The salary for this permanent Consultant Practitioner role is £42,922 - £48,821 per annum.


  • Be responsible for caseload of work that will be significantly more complex and will require them to integrate and apply high levels of practice standards and quality
  • Practice development activity
  • Identify areas of practice that may require additional support, research, innovation or application
  • Undertake direct work with Children, young people and their families focusing on particular complex problems which require advance practice skills (a minimum if your casework time will be on complex, high risk work subject to the requirements of the service)
  • Communicate and build professional relationships with Children and their Families and to ensure that social work practice
  • A thorough assessment and analysis of needs and strengths taking account contributions from professional colleagues
  • Promotes participation of children and young people in decision making
  • Consistent with relevant legislation, regulation and guidance and informed by recent research and evaluation
  • Undertake interviews, assessments , observations and information gathering activities with/from relevant sources and other agencies, which lead to holistic assessments of needs, outcome focused and purposeful plans for professional interventions with explicit aims, objectives, and agreed outcomes, within the management of risk
  • Devise, implement and review Children’s plans, including the development and management of child protection, children in court proceedings and pre proceedings for all that require them in line with child protection and court timescales whilst considering resource and multi-agency implications
  • Ensure proficiency in statutory processes regarding Fostering, Adoption and permanency options for children
  • Chair multi agency meetings to determine childcare plans and make clear child focused recommendations to Team Manager
  • Project manage and take a lead responsibility for the development of one or more specific areas of professional social work practice across the Brighter Futures for Children company- I.e. court proceedings, looked after children, children affected by Domestic abuse, adolescent risk, children who go missing or children whose parents have mental health, substance misuse or learning need
  • Work in a manner this is consistent with and upholds Brighter Futures for Children Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy
  • Maintain and update case notes and other records, write reports as required
  • Take reasonable care of your own health and safety and co-operate with management, so far is necessary, to enable compliance with the company’s health and safety rules and legislative requirements
  • Undertake such personal training as may be deemed necessary to meet the duties and responsibilities of the post
  • Develop and promote strong partnerships
  • Work as part of a team as well as using own initiative to deliver objective

Requirements of the Consultant Practitioner:

  • Degree or equivalent in social work
  • Health & Care Professionals Council (HCPC) registration
  • A high level of skills and experience and wish to develop their careers in front line practice
  • An excellent knowledge of relevant legislation, policy, practice and guidance and can evidence through their previous work that can demonstrate this learning and its application within their practice

  • Excellent communication skills (including verbal, written and conflict management)
  • Ability to analyse complex information and plan, review and implement care plans
  • Ability to organise and deliver a complex set of tasks
  • Ability to actively engage in own development and to support the development of others
  • Sound understanding of ICT with good keyboard skills
  • Commitment to delivery of services to the public in line with equality and diversity policy and procedures
  • Ability to demonstrate resilience via a range of techniques developed by yourself to manage stress and the range of unpleasant environmental circumstances that you may come into contact with on a regular basis
  • Willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check
  • Car driver with use of a car
  • Be prepared to work outside office hours to respond to specific service requirements
