Sanctuary Personnel, a committed and competitive recruitment agency is currently looking for an experienced and dedicated Band 6 Community Occupational Therapist to work weekends based in Saffron Walden.

The pay rate for this locum Community Occupational Therapist job is £30.00 - £35.00 per hour (Assignment rate) and is an initial 2-month contract.

Duties:

  • Work with adults both in the community and the inpatient rehab ward, providing Occupational Therapy assessments, intervention/treatment and evaluated input
  • Be responsible for a clinical caseload of complex and non-complex patients including those with palliative care needs, orthopaedic conditions, neurological conditions, COPD and other pulmonary conditions
  • Be able to predict disease progression and consider this in clinical reasoning some patients may also have a dual diagnosis that impacts their physical conditions, such as dementia
  • Work within a time frame to ensure that referrals are dealt with promptly, through triage to prioritize cases based on clinical need
  • Carry out assessments using non-standardized and standardized tools and use the information gathered to plan intervention
  • Provide specialist intervention that includes teaching adaptive techniques ordering standardized and specialist equipment (incl. Telecare solutions), arranging adaptations, a recommendation regarding support needs
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of this input and take appropriate action
  • Use clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice to underpin the above
  • Be aware of additional needs that a patient may have in regards to safeguarding e.g. hoarding/ unkempt environments etc. and be able to follow up as required
  • Provide advice and information to patients to support them in managing their condition
  • Provide advice, education and support to family and paid carers, in relation to supporting the patient in a safe and enabling way
  • Take an active role in own clinical supervision and appraisal and be responsible for own CDP
  • Be aware of current legislation, guidance and good practise relating to this clinical area
  • Provide supervision to junior and unqualified members of the OT team; allocating and overseeing their clinical work/cases
  • Providing training and guidance to them as required
  • Take a role in fieldwork education of Occupational Therapy and other health students on placement
  • Take an active role in service review and development of the Occupational therapy service in Uttlesford and across West Essex
  • Undertaking surveys/audit related to own clinical area as directed

Requirements of the Community Occupational Therapist:

  • Degree or equivalent within Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registered as an Occupational Therapist
  • Recent NHS experience either pre or post-qualification
