Sanctuary Health is currently looking for a dedicated Band 8a Clinical Psychologist to work full-time in Swindon.

The pay rate for this locum Clinical Psychologist job is £33.00 per hour (Assignment rate) and is a 6-month contract.

Summary:

  • To lead the psychological care of young people and their families within the inpatient service; providing psychological assessment and psychological intervention (both individual and group) within the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures. Central to this role is enhancing psychological thinking of the team and working effectively with multidisciplinary colleagues.

Duties:

  • Provide specialist psychological assessments of young people referred to the Inpatient Unit based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources.
  • To provide specialist psychological assessment to inpatients at Marlborough House adolescent Unit. This may include psychological and psychometric tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with young people, family members and others involved in the young person's care.
  • Provide psychological treatment for inpatients who are appropriate for individual therapy, using evidence-based approaches appropriately tailored to meet the individual needs to the young person.
  • Make skilled evaluations to formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a young person's mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the young person's problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.
  • To implement a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups within and across teams, adjusting and refining psychological formulations, drawing upon different exploratory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.
  • To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individuals, family or group.
  • Provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to clients' formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and to provide advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management.
  • Act as link worker (for in and day patients), where appropriate.
  • To work within the framework of Care Programme Approach (CPA).
  • Communicate and give feedback in a highly skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of young people under their care and to monitor and evaluate progress during the course of both uni-and multi-disciplinary care.
  • To provide expertise, advice, guidance and consultation to peer and junior professionals within the service, both individually and by attendance at team referral and review meetings
  • Develop and provide a specialist role in relation to young people. This will include the development of treatment programmes to be run jointly with other staff, thus disseminating psychological expertise across the service.
  • As a member of the Inpatient Staff team, this role will support other team activities - i.e. supporting group work programmes/family programmes by agreement.
  • To facilitate case discussions, formulations and reflective spaces for the team.

Requirements of the Clinical Psychologist:

  • Must be an HCPC registered psychologist
  • Have a relevant qualification
  • Recent experience is essential
  • The successful candidate must meet the requirements of the post including all pre-employment checks in line with safeguarding needs.
