Sanctuary Health is currently looking for an experienced and dedicated Haematology & Blood Transfusion Biomedical Scientist to work full-time in Guernsey. The ideal candidate will possess highly developed specialist knowledge of Biomedical Scientist practices and be registered with the HCPC.
The pay rate for this locum Biomedical Scientist job is £30-£31 per hour and is on an initial 3-month contract.
Job Summary:
- The Blood Transfusion department performs blood grouping and antibody screening tests including emergency department, preoperative and antenatal patients. It provides blood, components and products for routine and emergency use, issuing approximately 2000 annually. In addition to the testing requirements of a routine blood transfusion laboratory, the department receives and processes whole blood and apheresis platelet donations from local donors. The stock is supplemented by imports from the UK where necessary.
- The Biomedical Scientist in Haematology & Blood Transfusion participates in the provision of comprehensive, robust and cost effective diagnostic Haematology & Blood Transfusion services on behalf of the Health and Social Care Committee, acting in accordance with Clinical Governance procedures.
- The role requires a graduate level of theoretical and practical knowledge of Haematology & Blood Transfusion. The post holder is required to contribute to the training and supervision of support and administrative staff within the IBMS training guidelines.
Requirements of the Biomedical Scientist:
- Must have a relevant qualification in biomedical science (BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or alternative qualification)
- Current registration as a Biomedical Scientist with the Health & Care Profession Council (HCPC)
- 2 years post qualifying experience within a similar role
- Recent laboratory experience in Haematology & Blood Transfusion, including blood cell morphology
