Sanctuary Health is currently looking for an experienced and dedicated Band 6 Community Occupational Therapist to work in Luton on a full-time basis. The ideal candidate will possess highly developed specialist knowledge of Occupational Therapy and be registered with the HCPC.

The salary for this Occupational Therapist job is £30,401 up to £37,297 per annum and is a permanent contract.

Job Purpose:

  • Working as a specialised Community Occupational Therapist within the Community Therapies Team, covering the area of East Staffordshire and responding to referrals from a variety of sources.
  • The post holder will be responsible for their own caseload, providing a high standard of care and Occupational Therapy service to patients with diverse, often complex conditions and multiple pathologies.
  • They will be an autonomous practitioner, assessing, planning and delivering patient centered care to a specialist level to prevent hospital admission, facilitate timely discharge and maximize function and quality of life to enable people to remain in their own home.
  • The post holder will work to professional and regulatory body codes, standards and guidance always ensuring that their practice is grounded in evidence based theoretical and practical knowledge.
  • To perform comprehensive assessment of patients with diverse presentations, complex physical and psychological conditions and multi-pathologies using clinical reasoning skills.
  • Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with all patients.
  • Use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients to progress rehabilitation and treatment programmes. This will include patients who may have difficulties in understanding or communicating. For example, patients may be dysphasic, depressed, deaf, and blind or who may be unable to accept diagnosis.

Requirements of the Occupational Therapist:

  • Degree or equivalent within Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registered as an Occupational Therapist
  • Recent NHS experience either pre or post qualification
  • The post holder will develop and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, GP's, carers, voluntary organisations and Health and Social Care.
  • Postgraduate experience in physical health.
  • Experience of student and junior supervision.
  • Contributing to clinical education of less experienced staff.
  • Ability to work independently, and to pass on knowledge / skills to others within both formal and informal environments.
  • Evidence of CPD maintained in portfolio.
  • Understand the legal responsibilities of the profession
  • Evidence of participating in research / audit
  • Experience of appraisal and recent involvement in staff performance review
  • Ability to use IT and clinical systems to a high standard
  • Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate
  • Understanding of clinical governance and its implications for services
