Band 5 Registered Mental Health Nurse – Prison Cleared

Location: HMP Hindley, Barracks Road, Wigan, WN2 5TH
Directorate: Health and Justice Services
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Sunday, main days Monday to Friday, between 08:00 – 17:30, rota-based shifts)
Reports to: Band 6 Team Leader
Accountable to: Head of Healthcare/Band 7 Mental Health Team Manager
Clearance: Current prison clearance required

What you will do:

– Triage mental health and substance misuse needs of individuals in custody, offering crucial advice on health and harm reduction.
– Conduct comprehensive assessments and collaborate with healthcare and prison staff to develop integrated care plans.
– Deliver therapeutic interventions to meet the primary and secondary care needs of service users.
– Conduct risk assessments and administer prescribed medications, ensuring compliance with protocols.
– Facilitate group sessions and maintain accurate clinical records, supporting the holistic wellbeing of patients.
– Participate in service development initiatives and contribute to training delivery for prison service staff.
– Supervise and support junior staff, overseeing their professional growth and adherence to best practices.
