Sanctuary Personnel, a leading recruitment company within the private and public sector has a locum role for an Accessibility Lead based in Bootle, Liverpool but working remotely.

The pay rate for this Accessibility Lead role is £250 per day (PAYE) and is a 6-month contract.

Main Duties:

  • Implement quality assurance processes to ensure the work of others meets new legal requirements on accessibility
  • Check that HSE builds accessible web content with a focus on what all types of users need
  • Advise on the technical feasibility of designs
  • Continually improve designs and solve technical problems to ensure they meet relevant standards as a minimum
  • Build capability by developing guidance on a range of accessibility and digital inclusion topics.
  • Maintain and manage an Accessibility Risk Register
  • Provide team members with professional advice and performance feedback, supporting their learning and development goals.
  • Lead on embedding the accessibility standards processes for the HSE website
  • Work with other communications platform service owners to ensure standards are met and advise on remediation activities.
  • Be an advocate for accessibility, educating and influencing

Requirements of the Accessibility Lead:

  • Experience of production of accessible PDFs and the remediation to ensure they meet WCAG2.1 compliance.
  • Experience of producing accessible HTML5, CSS and JavaScript
  • Experience of work relating to Digital Inclusion strategy and policy within a public sector organisation.
  • Passion for helping public sector organisations tackle the challenge of ensuring vulnerable people are not excluded from their services.
  • Experience in supporting digitally inclusive policy development within a public sector organisation.
  • Stakeholder management including with policy and operational delivery professionals.
  • Able to work collaboratively to lead teams across boundaries within in a complex policy/service environment.
  • Skills in defining in-house and third-party provision of Assisted Digital support.
  • Skills in how best to serve digitally excluded, hard to reach and vulnerable user groups
  • Ideally, experience in working on digital transformation of services and an understanding of the social and technological context for those services.
  • Ideally, skills in managing and mentoring team members, providing them with guidance, training and constructive feedback.
  • Ideally, skills in planning, developing and delivering training as well as evaluating its effectiveness.
  • Ideally, knowledge of the wider government strategy around digital accessibility and inclusion, and PSBAR compliance.
  • A degree in HCI/ Cognitive Psychology/ Anthropology/ Sociology/ Computer Science or related field, and/or relevant industry experience is desirable, but not essential.
