Job Summary:

Sanctuary Personnel are seeking a Clinical Physiologist to join our client's team in a specialised clinical environment. Your role will involve providing high-quality diagnostic respiratory and sleep services, encompassing detailed reporting and referral to specialist clinics when necessary. You will be responsible for delivering services across various clinical settings, catering to a diverse range of patient presentations, including those with physical and mental disabilities and challenging behaviours. Empathy and emotional support for patients and their families, particularly in sensitive situations, will be crucial.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage on-island respiratory and sleep diagnostic services independently, producing high-quality reports.
  • Plan and manage clinical workload autonomously within budgetary constraints.
  • Train, advise, and support departmental staff and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance diagnostic respiratory and sleep services, ensuring high-quality patient care.
  • Develop guidelines, protocols, and policies for respiratory and sleep services.
  • Perform diagnostic Cardio-Respiratory procedures and contribute to an effective service delivery.
  • Maintain patient records and ensure data integrity for statistical evaluation.
  • Uphold professional and technical standards, promoting evidence-based practice.
  • Contribute to departmental Governance, including risk management and health and safety protocols.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Ensure continuing professional development and clinical competency.
  • Assess clinical justifications of referrals and liaise with referring sources or Consultant Physicians as needed.
  • Lead diagnostic respiratory and sleep services, ensuring safe practice and staying updated on new developments.
  • Produce detailed reports and make referrals promptly.
  • Maintain sleep service database and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Advise and train other staff groups on diagnostic respiratory and sleep services.
  • Provide patient support and optimise CPAP devices for improved sleep quality.

Training, Research & Development:

  • Participate in the induction programme for new and newly promoted Physiologists and nurses within Cardio-Respiratory, ensuring the establishment, documentation, and maintenance of high clinical standards.
  • Contribute to planning and delivering educational programmes for nursing staff, medical staff, and members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Mentor and support junior physiologists during their specialist training and preceptorship in respiratory and sleep service areas, ensuring the future resilience of these services.
  • Represent HSC and the department at relevant national meetings, delivering lectures at courses and universities as required.
  • Undertake research in appropriate areas of practice and assess research proposals involving the use of respiratory/sleep services.
  • Conduct formal assessments of undergraduate students and document findings in accordance with each academic institution’s requirements.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations or lectures for staff and participate in the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme for all staff.
  • Actively participate in the technical and patient-focused aspects of the department’s Audit programme.
  • Conduct examinations according to protocol for various clinical trials.
  • Stay updated with new developments in Cardio-Respiratory and contribute to their implementation in the department.

Regulatory Duties:

  • Understand and adhere to all Health & Safety and COSHH regulations.
  • Enter accurate data into RIS and PACS, ensuring patient confidentiality in accordance with the Data Protection Act (1984). Unauthorised disclosure of such information is considered gross misconduct and may result in disciplinary action, including dismissal.
  • Fulfil all responsibilities regarding the HSC Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • Adhere to the HSC Smoking Policy, actively discouraging smoking and prohibiting it in hospital grounds to promote health.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent.
  • Postgraduate qualification in diagnostic respiratory testing and interpretation (e.g., ARTP Part 1 and Part 2).

Full Qualifications:

  • Appropriate qualification in sleep (e.g., ARTP CPAP accreditation and ARTP overnight and polygraphy practitioner certificate).

  • Registration with RCCP/AHCS/HCPC.
