Sanctuary Personnel are currently seeking a Band 8a Nuclear Medicine Physicist to join our client's dynamic team.

Job Purpose

  • Plan, organise, and implement a quality assurance programme for all Nuclear Medicine equipment.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with legislative standards.
  • Oversee administration of radionuclide therapies.
  • Supervise and train trainee clinical scientists, nurses, radiographers, and technicians.
  • Assist in document maintenance within the department’s quality management software.

Clinical / Operational Responsibilities

Main duties include, but are not restricted to:

  • Active involvement in technical and scientific aspects of the department.
  • Plan and execute equipment commissioning and quality assurance programme.
  • Develop workflows for image acquisition and data analysis.
  • Participate in Trust research and development programmes.
  • Assist in safe operation of the radiopharmacy.
  • Dispense and administer radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Create and update clinical protocols.
  • Conduct risk assessments.
  • Ensure dose accuracy prior to administration.
  • Audit waste disposal protocols.
  • Provide radiation safety guidance.
  • Undertake environmental and personnel monitoring.
  • Participate in incident investigations.

Teaching and Training

  • Participate in teaching, training, and development activities.
  • Engage in staff appraisal.

Managerial

  • Prioritise and manage workload.
  • Maintain records for Nuclear Medicine QA and services.

Professional

  • Maintain HCPC registration.
  • Participate in CPD schemes.
  • Work towards Nuclear Medicine MPE status.
  • Participate in local NAIR response.
  • Attend training courses, meetings, and seminars.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Honours degree in Medical Physics or equivalent.
  • MSc. or higher degree in Radiation Physics or equivalent.
  • HCPC State Registered Clinical Scientist.
  • Membership of IPEM or other relevant professional body.

Desirable Criteria

  • Higher qualification.
  • Experience in research.
  • Audit experience.

Experience

  • Specialist knowledge of Nuclear Medicine (minimum 2 years post-registration).
  • Familiarity with UK legislation on radioactive materials.
  • Understanding of ionising radiation safety.
  • Knowledge of Nuclear Medicine equipment principles and quality assurance.
