Junaid Dowool

Clinical and Safeguarding Lead Advisor

Junaid has been providing specialist clinical and safeguarding advice for Sanctuary’s clinical workforce since 2016. As a highly experienced Mental Health Nurse with many years’ experience in clinical and managerial leadership, Junaid thrives in fast-paced, challenging and complex environments. He is passionate about supporting people and has a genuine, fair and transparent management style.

In his role, Junaid supports Sanctuary’s workforce and local teams to meet framework requirements. This involves having a deep understanding of the NMC Code of Practice and Standards. As such, he has defined a clear clinical governance pathway. This involves working closely with external partners to ensure that the workforce delivers excellent care to patients and clients. A core aspect of his role is to conduct clinical interviews with candidates as part of their formal clinical appraisals in line with their PDP. In addition, he delivers informal and formal supervision to maintain staff wellbeing as per requirements of the CQC, which is also extended to provide clinical supervision on request.

Given his position and knowledge in clinical governance, Junaid also leads on serious clinical incident reviews. Here, he details learnings and gaps analysis to the Management Board on improving practice. Commenting on how he supports Sanctuary’s extensive clinical community, Junaid says:

“My aim is to ensure the delivery of high quality, dignified and compassionate care to service users and to continuously improve patient experience and care standards.

“Working in a clinical setting presents many unique challenges. For me, personally and professionally, I enjoy helping clinical staff to develop and navigate the challenging times.”
